Goals in either half by Bongolethu Jayiya and Aubrey Ngoma sealed the victory for the side formerly known as Mpumalanga Black Aces.
With the win in their inaugural match, City went to the top of the table after being the only side to keep a clean sheet on the night where three other matches took place.
City coach Eric Tinkler said Jayiya’s strike on the stroke of half time was decisive as the attacking midfielder showed composure and skill before firing the ball into the top corner.
"I felt in that, in the first half that we would get that opportunity and fortunately enough, we got it just before half-time and it is a good time to score. That builds the morale and builds the confidence and it obviously works the opposite for the opposition."
