FOOTBALL NEWS – In a packed Thembalethu Stadium in George, Bitou Pirates claimed the Woz'uzoba babona (Come and see) Easter Soccer Tournament title after defeating Paris United 1-0 in a tough final on Monday 10 April.
The only goal of the game was scored by Hlomla Hosana, ensuring that the visitors from Plett walked away with top honours.
Two Bitou Pirates players were also rewarded for their excellent work throughout the tournament, Ayabulela Teyise as the best goalkeeper of the tournament and Thami Daweti who received the best player of the tournament prize.
The Woz'uzoba babona Easter Soccer Tournament 2023 was organised by George Football Developers.
The solitary goal in Monday's final came courtesy of a first-half set piece for Bitou Pirates. The visitors from Plett spent the bulk of the second half attempting to keep the men from Paris United outfit at bay.
Some gutsy and hard-working defence in the final moments of the game ensured that Bitou Pirates held onto their 1-0 lead and they went home with a cash prize as well as the gold trophy and gold medals, while Paris United received the runner-up cash prize with silver medals.
Third place went to Thembalethu Brothers who also received a cash prize but with bronze medals.
