SOUTHERN CAPE CRICKET NEWS - Union Stars and Knysna Cavaliers were victorious in the two SWD Premier League fixtures that were played last weekend.
At the Bridgton Sport Ground in Oudtshoorn, Union Stars (182/8) defeated Mossel Bay (155 all out) by 27 runs to cement their place at the top of the log standings.
Tyrique Wessels (3/32) and Breyton Arries (3/33) bagged three wickets each whilst Pieter Stuurman made a valuable 59.
In the Bitou derby, Knysna Cavaliers (81/9) recorded a nail-biting one-wicket victory against Pioneers (80 all out) from Plettenberg Bay. AB van der Walt (4/12) for Knysna and Claude Terblanche (5/16) for Pioneers excelled with the ball.
Cavaliers earned a vital bonus point in their victory for reaching the target within 40 overs.
Another derby match between George and Ramblers at Rooirivierrif was abandoned due to rain.
