CRICKET NEWS - The SWD cricket team got their campaign in the Cricket SA limited over competition off to the best possible start with a four-wicket bonus point victory against KwaZulu Natal at Kingsmead in Durban last Sunday.
The home team, who won the toss and opted to bat first, were restricted to a modest 125 (in 38,5 overs) thanks to a brilliant bowling and fielding display.
Renaldo Meyer (2/28 in 8,5 overs), Neil Hornbuckle (2/17 in 7 overs) and Herschell America (2/26 in 11 overs) were the pick of the bowlers.
After losing two early wickets, the stand-in captain, Hornbuckle (29 from 38 balls, 2x6, 2x4), and Richard Frenz (50 from 92 balls; 6x4) added valuable contributions with the bat to get SWD over the line after 35 overs - 127/6.
The all-important bonus points will be vital as the competition progresses but a victory away from home will be a critical boost for the self-confidence of a young team.
SWD won by 4 wickets.
