NATIONAL CRICKET NEWS - South Western Districts Cricket recently received an important financial injection from the National Lotteries Commission (NLC) in the form of a R600 000 grant.
According to Albertus Kennedy, SWD Cricket chief executive officer, this allocation was awarded based on the last application submitted.
The funding is making provision for specific projects that include capacity building for the development of clubs, training of administrators, coaches and technical officials, domestic travel participation costs as well as the participation, organising and transport of local leagues. Funding was also allocated for skills development programmes.
"The allocation is aimed at providing assistance to programmes covering all the geographical areas in the province and is greatly welcomed in times where income revenue streams remain very important to promote cricket programmes," says Kennedy.
Over the past decade SWD Cricket benefited from various Lotto projects, including an allocation eight years ago that allowed the union to construct the office complex, clubhouse and dressing room facilities at the Recreation Ground in Oudtshoorn.
Rudy Claassen, chairperson of the board, thanked the NLC for their financial support in SWD Cricket's objective to create a platform for stakeholders to excel through an integrated approach in corporate governance, operational excellence and sustainable development.
