GARDEN ROUTE DISTRICT CRICKET NEWS - The Six Gun Grill South Western Districts cricket team, the only team from Division 2 to qualify for the knock-out stages of the Cricket South Africa T20 knock-out competition, is ready and fit to take on the Multiply Titans in the quarterfinal.
Garry Hampson, the SWD coach, is confident ahead of the clash that takes place in Kimberley on Tuesday, 19 October.
"Although we respect the Titans as one of the leading teams in the country, we are looking forward to the challenge and are preparing to meet them head-on.
"The players gained a lot of confidence from the pool stages – ending top of the pool. We learnt from our mistakes and are working hard to accomplish another upset," he said.
The match will start at 10:00 and will be broadcast live on Supersport (Channel 212).
The overseas professional from Derbyshire, Leus du Plooy, who recently played in The Hundred competition in the United Kingdom, has joined the team.
Du Plooy has an impressive professional record – averaging 40.13 in First Class cricket, 58.28 in List A cricket and 31.72 in 67 T20 matches with a strike rate of 125.
All eyes will also be on the top wicket taker after the pool stages of the competition, Herschell America. He caught the imagination and overnight achieved icon status after bagging seven wickets in the pool matches. He will be hoping to continue his promising form.
