CRICKET NEWS - SWD spin bowler, Tsepo Ndwandwa, won the prestigious SWD Player of the Season Award at their annual awards event that was presented via virtual media on Friday.
The Covid-19 lockdown regulations have prevented SWD Cricket from hosting its annual awards function after the 2019/20 season and streamed its awards via various media platforms.
In the CSA Provincial Three-Day Competition, Ndwandwa bagged the fifth most wickets; 33 in total which is just six wickets less than the top wicket-taker. Ndwandwa also represented a SA Emerging XI and also the WSB Cape Cobras team
Miceala Andrews received the Women's Player of the Season Award after finishing 6th on the CSA Limited over competition batting averages table with 187 runs at an average of 46.75. She also boast the highest score of 117 and strike rate of 114. Furthermore she was also selected for CSA T20 Super Series and CSA National Powerade Academy.
Enverino Swartz from the local Union Stars Cricket Club was crowned the T20 Player of the Season for his outstanding bowling performances. His teammate at Union Stars, Tyrece Karelse, walked away with the High Schools Player of the Season Award.
Special Merit Awards were awarded to Heath Richards and Jhedli van Briesies from Langenhoven Gymnasium who was selected for Cape Cobras Cubs team and also to Micaela Andrews, Annerie Dercksen and Jané Winster for their selection to participate in the CSA Women T20 Super League). Brendon Louw and Neil Hornbuckle played their 100th and 50th First-Class matches for SWD respectively.
Three members who passed away during the past season, Neville du Plessis (umpire from Dysselsdorp), Elvira Nomdoe (scorer from Blanco) and Carol le Roux (educator from Delville Park Primary School in George) was also honoured with a Roll of Honor Award.
Albertus Kennedy (CEO of SWD cricket) received the Simon Swigelaar Floating Trophy for his services to SWD Cricket. Kennedy have been employed at the SWD cricket ground in Oudtshoorn since the opening of their permanent office in October 2004.
