Kohli held India’s innings together as he scored 138 off 140 balls with six fours and five sixes as India posted a formidable 299 for eight after winning the toss and electing to bat.
South Africa were then undone by India’s spinners despite De Villiers carving his way to 112 off just 107 deliveries with 10 fours and two sixes as the Proteas could only muster 264-9.
The result left the series levelled at 2-2 with one match left to play, on Sunday, October 25 in Mumbai.
Kohli’s century saw him go fifth on the ODI all-time list while he is the fastest man to score 23 ODI tons while De Villiers’s century, his 22nd, made him the leading century maker for South Africa in ODIs, moving him ahead of Hashim Amla and Herschelle Gibbs.
