OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Oudtshoorn-born fast bowler, Ottniel Baartman, has been nominated for two top accolades at the upcoming Cricket South Africa (CSA) Awards, set to take place on 31 July at Emperors Palace in Kempton Park.
Baartman, a former SWD Cricket player, is a finalist in the categories for International Men's Newcomer of the Year and Men's T20 International Player of the Year, a testament to his breakthrough season for the Proteas.
The CSA Awards celebrate outstanding performances from the 2024/25 cricket season, recognising national and domestic players, coaches, umpires and support staff who have made significant contributions to the sport.
The 2024/25 season was a milestone year for South African cricket. The Proteas Men reached their first-ever ICC Men's T20 World Cup final and went on to win the ICC World Test Championship Final 2025. The Proteas Women also shone brightly, making it to their second consecutive ICC Women's T20 World Cup final, while the SA U19 Women advanced to their maiden global final in Malaysia.
Annerie Dercksen, a Proteas Women's allrounder and Garden Route Badgers player, is nominated in three national categories: Women's ODI Player of the Year, SA Women's Player of the Year, and SA Fans' Player of the Year.
On the domestic front, Pheko Moletsane and Thomas Kaber, both from the Garden Route Badgers, are in the running for Division 2 One-Day Cup Player of the Season and T20 Knock-Out Player of the Season respectively.
CSA's annual awards are regarded as one of the most prestigious events on the cricketing calendar.
"The CSA Awards celebrate excellence, perseverance and the undeniable spirit of South African cricket. We are proud to honour those who have inspired a nation and left an indelible mark on the game," said CSA CEO Pholetsi Moseki.
