OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Bart Saaiman and Zelna Hugo from Oudtshoorn excelled two weeks ago at the Eden Laser Run Western Cape Championships that was hosted at Glenwood House College. Approximately 75 athletes (which include five from Oudtshoorn) participated at the event.
Five Special Needs athletes from Carpe Diem also competing in the TL20 Classification for Special Needs.
Laser Run combines running and shooting in fast-paced and dynamic races including four rounds of laser pistol shooting from 5 / 10 meters distance and four times 400 / 800 meters.
Athletes have to hit a target five times before they can run. The total number of hits is 20 and the total running distance is 1 600 / 3 200 meters. Eden performed very well and achieved a total of 27 trophies. Saaiman managed to earn third place (mens 50 years and older category) while the learner from Langenhoven Gymnasium, Zelna, came first in the girls u.19 event.
