TOURISM NEWS - The minister sought legal advice on the revised regulations after the species list after the Wildlife Ranching South Africa and the Professional Hunters Association of South Africa launched an urgent interdict application in the Gauteng High Court.
The Department of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment (DFFE) said in a public statement.
The proposed legislation would have clamped down on the trophy hunting of leopards and leopards.
After the organisations challenged the regulations, Minister Creecy agreed to withdraw the following regulations:
- Revised National Norms and Standards for the Management of Elephants in South Africa
- Norms and Standards for the Trophy Hunting of Leopard in South Africa
Wildlife NGOs and experts said they were frustrated with the government’s decision.
