Task team to probe daring prisoner escape
NATIONAL NEWS - Gauteng police have appointed a special task team to investigate and track down a group of gunmen who ambushed a prisoner transport van on Tuesday, allowing two accused to flee.

The incident took place in Atteridgeville as prisoners were being transported from the local magistrates court to the awaiting trial facility at Kgosi Mampuru Correctional Centre.

While the identities of the two escapees are known to the police, the pair are facing charges of theft and armed robbery.

Armed with handguns and assault rifles, the group ambushed the police van about 500 metres from the court.
