NATIONAL NEWS - Preliminary Student Representative Council (SRC) results indicate that the South African Students Congress (Sasco) has dealt a heavy blow to its arch enemy, the Democratic Alliance Student Organisation (Daso) at all the campuses of the Nelson Mandela University (NMU).
The 2017/2018 SRC elections were held under the auspices of the IEC on Wednesday 18 October.
The final results will only be made available once all objections have been dealt with.
At the NMU George campus, Sasco won 6 seats, up from their previous 5, while Daso dropped from 5 seats to 3. The EFFSC took the final seat.
Wednesday's SRC elections marked the return to normality in student politics after the chaos of last year’s nation-wide #FeesMustFall protests led to the cancellation of the 2016 elections.
