NATIONAL NEWS - A collaboration between local and international law enforcement agencies resulted in the arrest of a 53-year-old Ridley Park, Queensburgh father of two after he was charged for the alleged possession and distribution of child pornography material in his home, on Monday.
The United States of America Federal Bureau of Investigations and Malvern SAPS joined forces to apprehend the suspect residing on Ridley Park Road after he allegedly distributed child pornography on social media.
The businessman and member of the Malvern CPF, who is well-known in the community and whose identity is known to the Rising Sun Chatsworth, is expected to make his first appearance in the Durban Magistrates Court on Tuesday, June 29.
“On May 12, an undercover agent based in the USA informed police about the suspect, who was distributing child pornography on social media. The Provincial Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit- Serial and Electronic Crime Unit conducted an investigation and the suspect was identified.
"A search and seizure operation was conducted on Monday morning at Ridley Park in Malvern,” she said.
She stated that a cellphone, as well as three memory sticks, were seized by the police.
“The cellphone was analysed at the scene and images of child pornography were found on the device,” she added.
Communications officer of Malvern SAPS, Sgt Sthembile Kheswa praised her team. “Well done to the SAPS and the USA Federal Bureau of Investigations. Our national police minister, Bheki Cele spoke about having 365 days of activism against women and child abuse and we are heeding to this call,” she concluded.
