GEORGE NEWS - The George municipality has undertaken to announce the date for this year’s Outeniqua Wheelchair Challenge (OCC) this week.
The George Herald reported last week that there have been many queries as to whether the OCC will go ahead in 2019. Concerns were raised that the necessary arrangements would not be in place by February.
In reply to George Herald's enquiries, the municipality released a statement last Wednesday, saying the 2019 OCC will take place on 5 or 12 May.
Chantel Edwards-Klose, spokesperson for the George municipality said on Monday in reply to an email, that an announcement will be made this week on the final date selected for the OCC 2019. She did not say when this week.
According to Edwards-Klose the route and other arrangements will be finalised by the organising committee and the public will be timeously informed with regard to road closures as is the case every year.

The George Herald is aware of several athletes eagerly awaiting confirmation of the event date in order to finalise arrangements to participate in the 2019 OCC.
In the past the OCC usually took place in the second weekend of February.
