NATIONAL NEWS - Bishop Israel Makamu from Endless Hope Bible Church in Alrode South is facing charges of sexual assault.
The bishop, who is also a television presenter was arrested on May 26 after a former employee of his church laid a complaint of sexual assault on May 19 at Brackendowns SAPS.
Following a brief appearance in the Palm Ridge Magistrate’s Court, Bishop Makamu was released on R2 000 bail.
National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed with the RECORD that Makamu faces charges of sexual assault.
“The case relates to an incident that allegedly happened in his church office in Alrode South during September 2018. The case was remanded to July 13 for further investigations,” she said.
Brackendowns SAPS spokesperson WO Gerhard Cornelius confirmed that a case against the prominent church leader was opened.
The arrest follows reports that the church leader was allegedly attempting ‘sexual connotations’ in a recorded telephonic conversation.
