NATIONAL NEWS - Social media has the power to connect people from around the world but sadly it is used for more nefarious purposes.
A video of two school learners in full uniform engaged in a sexual act has been circulating and on Thursday, 13 February 2020, both learners were suspended, Roodepoort Record reports.
The footage shows two Westridge High School learners engaged in an explicit act at what initial reports indicate is Westgate Shopping Centre.
The incident is said to have taken place on the afternoon of Friday, 7 February.
The learners will face a School Governing Body(SGB) hearing and the school, in conjunction with the Gauteng Department of Education (GDE), will formulate a programme aimed at educating the learners on the perils of such public acts.
Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi’s torrid 2020 continues and he reacted decisively saying, “We strongly condemn any acts of learner misconduct, which seeks to undermine the dignity of our learning institutions. It is important to remind learners that they must always focus on education for their successful future endeavours. Furthermore, we relentlessly appeal to parents in assisting to enforce discipline in and outside the school environment”.
The GDE will be providing counselling to all parties who may be traumatised by the incident via their psycho-social team.
Anyone in possession of the video is asked to delete it and not be involved in the spreading of graphic material.
