NATIONAL NEWS - In just a few weeks - on Heritage day, 24 September - it's that time of year again - National Braai Day.
For over 10 years, South Africans have been uniting around a fire on this date.
While South Africa is a country of unparalleled diversity and pleasing differences, there is one common thread that brings us all together, and that's our love for cooking on an open flame.
To make this year's National Braai Day even more festive, Jan Braai is calling on South Africans to light a fire for Braai Night on the night before National Braai Day, a smokey "Christmas Eve", if you will.
Taking inspiration from the Netherlands' King's Night, Braai Night is an opportunity to party around a fire before the relaxing festivities of National Braai Day. (Actually, it's the perfect excuse to braai two days in a row!)
National Braai Day is not only a chance to sit around a fire and reflect on our shared heritage, but also the chance to enjoy our beautiful country by doing the one thing we know all South Africans are experts at - braaiing.
