NATIONAL NEWS - Heavy rains over the past few days have caused several traffic disruptions in areas such as Randfontein and Centurion with roads flooded or closed due to safety concerns.
The Randfontein Herald reports that parts of the R28 were flooded while the R599 partially collapsed in Randfontein on Friday.
The Gauteng MEC for Transport and Logistics Kedibone Diale-Tlabela said on Saturday that the department’s emergency road maintenance teams are currently on the ground attending to various damages inflicted to the infrastructure.
The Pretoria Rekord reports that Wierda Road over the N14 highway is sagging because of a sinkhole. Several low-lying bridges in Centurion were affected by flooding.
Although the exact rainfall could not yet be confirmed, Gauteng Weather tweeted that they have received reports of over 100mm overnight in the Centurion area.
The newspaper says emergency services say up to date, no injuries have been reported because of the weekend’s flooding.
