SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The National Department of Health (NDOH) will start with the roll-out of vaccines this week, and it is urgent that doctors and healthcare workers register on the database.
Vaccines for healthcare workers is a joint initiative driven by The Unity Forum for Family Practitioners (UFFP).
The UFFP is constituted by SAMA (South African Medical Association), IPAF (International Powered Access Federation), ASAPA (the Alliance of South Africa Independent Practitioners Association), EMC (electronic medicines compendium, and SAMDP (South African Medical and Dental Practitioners Association) and represents the majority of general practitioners in South Africa.
The purpose of this initiative is to assist the health department in identifying healthcare worker vaccine needs and potential vaccination sites during this crisis period.
It is vitally important that the Covid-19 vaccine reaches every general practitioner (GP) in private practice once the roll-out starts.
A single database of all GPs has been set up to facilitate fast and effective distribution to all front-line workers in this pandemic and registration can be done at www.v4hcw.co.za .
Only a few doctors in South Africa are currently aware of this database which has been launched by ASAIPA early last week.
With 1 300 doctors already registered it seems the message has not reached by all medical practitioners.
