The Cango caves in Oudtshoorn have been closed to the public. An earthquake measuring 3,5 on the Richter’s scale was felt in Oudtshoorn and other regions, at about 08:20 on Tuesday 18 October.
Gerard Otto, head of Eden district municipality’s disaster management, confirmed that tremors were also felt as far as George.
Says Otto, “I ordered that the Cango caves be closed as a preventive measure”.
The tremor was also felt in De Hoek, Sedgefield and Mossel Bay.
Otto says he’s awaiting confirmation of any damages that might have been caused, and where the earthquake originated.
