NATIONAL NEWS - The NSRI, Police and the emergency services, are appealing to the public to be safety conscious on this last day of the school vacation.
According to a statement issued by the NSRI:
"Cold fronts, forecast by SAWS (South African Weather Services), have brought rough seas to our coastline, that coupled with the new moon Spring tide, we are expecting rip currents to be stronger than normal today and sea conditions to be perilous in places.
"We are appealing to bathers, coastal hikers, beach strollers, paddlers, boaters and sailors to be extra cautious on this last day of the school vacation.
"Snow and rain, forecast by SAWS, in places, may cause inland water ways, rivers, lakes and dams, to pose dangers to road users, hikers, bathers and paddlers.
"Keep a watch and adhere to SAWS weather alerts and weather warnings.
"We are appealing to everyone to take this last day of the school vacation to have safety top of mind as you return from your holidays.
"NSRI, lifeguards, Police, Law Enforcement, Traffic Services, the emergency medical services and fire and rescue services are all on high alert but we are all hopeful that you adhere to all safety measures as you return from your vacation and that everyone is safe.
"Lets keep each other safe."
