"Netcare 911 paramedics and members of the Krugersdorp fire department were at the scene but tragically the man died prior to their arrival," spokeswoman Santi Steinmann said.
Sergeant Tshepisho Mashale of the Krugersdorp police said the man was struck at the Witpoortjie train station on Ontdekkers Road at 5.40am.
The man's identity was not immediately known, but he was believed to be aged around 35.
