NATIONAL NEWS - A dangerous game that involves squeezing someone’s throat to the point of unconsciousness to obtain a rush or hallucination, has claimed the life of a young Pietermaritzburg pupil.
The family is struggling to come to terms with the death of their only child, a 14-year-old Grade 9 pupil who died at home on Friday, apparently after dabbling with a version of the ‘Choking Game’.
Paramedics rushed to the family home last Friday after the boy’s dad found the child tied to the door. The paramedics and a doctor tried to resuscitate the child but were unable to save him.
The boy’s dad this week urged other families and schools to be wary of ‘what is going on’ and take every effort to eradicate the game.
“My child’s death must not be in vain. We want other families to know what is going on so that another child does not have to become a victim,” said the dad, who did not want to reveal his name just yet.
