NATIONAL NEWS - The Cape of Good Hope SPCA has started with a rescue plan in Gordon’s Bay to help a sub-adult male elephant seal safely return to the ocean.
SPCA inspectors are currently on site in Sir Lowry’s Pass Road where the elephant seal has found its way into a residential area.
The SPCA said they are actively working on a “safe and stress-free” plan to relocate the animal and has asked the public to avoid the area to give the seal the space and calm it needs while the rescue is being carried out.
The situation is under control and the inspectors are waiting for a wildlife vet to arrive and safely sedate the seal for transport.
Other role players who are lending a hand are the City of Cape Town’s Marine Unit with a large game capture trailer to facilitate transportation, representatives from SANParks, Two Oceans Aquarium, Shark Spotters, Law Enforcement and Traffic Services, SAPS and the Gordon’s Bay Medical Ambulance Services and Gordon’s Bay Security Services.
The SPCA was extremely thankful for the concern shown by all the role players and said there is incredible teamwork. “Animal rescue does take a village,” the organisation posted on its Facebook page.
