Brian Molefe made permanent CEO of Eskom

NATIONAL NEWS - Cabinet has appointed Brian Molefe as chief executive officer of power utility Eskom on a permanent basis, public enterprises minister Lynne Brown said on Friday.

Molefe had been acting CEO since mid-April when he was drafted in from state rail freight firm Transnet to try to stabilise the troubled electricity producer.

Brown said two weeks ago that while she was happy with Molefe, it would be up to the board whether he stayed on permanently in that position.

Dr Ben Ngubane has been appointed as chair of the board and Anoj Singh as chief financial officer.

Brown says the three men have brought stability to Eskom.
