MOTORING NEWS - Earlier this year, engineers at Française de Mécanique assembled the 300 000th Turbo PureTech three-cylinder petrol engine in France.
The engine was a roaring success since it won the prestigious "Engine of the Year" award in 2015. It is fitted on the Peugeot 208, 308, 2008 and 3008, the Citroën C3, C4, C4 Cactus and C4 Picasso, as well as the top of the range series - the DS 3 and DS 4.
It cuts fuel consumption and CO² emissions by an average 18% compared with the naturally aspirated EP engine from the manufacturer, which was the market's top performer.
We can testify to the fact that the smaller, lighter Turbo PureTech petrol engine offers remarkable level of driving pleasure and performance in the models we drove.
In June 2015 it was named Engine of the Year in the 1-litre to 1,4-litre category at the International Engine of the Year Awards.
The accolade recognised the technology and the performance of this market-leading powerplant.
Production of the Turbo PureTech engine began in March 2014 at the Française de Mécanique plant and the total of 6 450 units are now manufactured weekly by four production teams.
At that time a total of 1 150 units were manufactured per day by four teams working and due to its success, production was ramped up.
