During the past few weeks several Kugas equipped with the 1.6l EcoBoost engine have caught alight.
Three vehicles have burst into flames in just the past three days in East London, Vryburg and Brakpan respectively.
Last month, Ford South Africa urged Kuga drivers to book their vehicles in for a free maintenance check, and since then at least three more vehicles have burst into flames.
The first caught alight on New Year’s Eve in East London, the second in Vryburg and the third on the N1 in Brakpan on Monday.
Ford says their that investigation into the incidents is not complete but it has found that the problem might be the result of engines overheating.
