MOTORING NEWS - The door seals in modern cars are far more advanced than used to be the case, with up to triple seals in some cases. But if you drive an older vehicle with single seals, especially if it's a hatchback or station wagon, it is important to ensure the hatchback seals in particular are in good condition.
Exhaust gases contain carbon monoxide which can cause humans to lose consciousness and even die if they are exposed to it in high enough levels.
If the hatch's rubber seal is no longer effective, carbon monoxide from the vehicle's exhaust might be drawn into the passenger compartment. If you notice moisture leaking past the seal in rainy conditions, or there is an audible whistle from an air leak, the seal is no longer doing its job.
Have it replaced for peace of mind.
