OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The municipal swimming pools are ready for operation, however, there is a delay in the opening of our municipal swimming pools due to issues arising from certain demands made by the lifeguards (not yet employed) to the municipality.
According to Aurelia Mle, liaison officer for, the municipality, they reached the final stages of the recruitment process for lifeguards, and a service contract was extended to the selected candidates.
"However, during the contract signing session scheduled for 9 November, some unexpected challenges arose. and these contracts were not signed."
The lifeguards presented counteroffers with the following demands:
- They are not satisfied with their shift schedules and pool assignments.
- They are seeking to work more than the stipulated 40 hours per month, which contradicts the Basic Conditions of Employment Act, and they also want the contract period to be extended.
- Dissatisfaction was also expressed with certain clauses outlined in their contracts.
The municipality is actively working to address these concerns and will keep you updated.
