During these searches, that took place from 09:30 on Friday morning in Duduza Street, Bongulethu, in Thabo Mbeki Square, 6th Avenue Bongulethu, Rosebank and Reggie Oliphant road, police managed to seize 5,35 kg dagga, 1,78kg Tik and 1802 Mandrax tablets with a total value of approximately R128 265.
The Mandrax tablets were found in a car from Knysna that was searched after following up information received from the public.
Information received from the public also led to the find and subsequent seizure of suspected stolen goods that were found at two premises. Power tools were found amongst the suspected stolen goods.
“Not all crime combatting operations, especially search operations for drugs, are successful. We therefor rely strongly on information from our informers' network and public in general to provide us with information. To execute five successful searches that resulted in the confiscation of high volumes of drugs in one morning is extremely satisfying,” said Brig Levona Januari, station commander of Oudtshoorn.
“These seizures are an indication of the availability of drugs in our town. We therefor urge the Oudtshoorn community to keep on supporting SAPS in its endeavours to eradicate drug abuse and the trafficking thereof in our town. This is the only way to break this vicious cycle”, she concluded.
Five suspects had been charged for the illegal dealing in drugs whilst two were charged for the possession of suspected stolen property. All these suspects are scheduled to appear in the Oudtshoorn magistrates’ court today, Monday 11 April.
