GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO SPORT NEWS - Last week Richard Hutton became the first golfer in the history of the Senior Golfers Society of the Southern Cape to win the coveted Franklin Cup four times in a row.
The Senior Golfers Society of the Southern Cape comprises over 100 golfers from George, Knysna, Mossel Bay and Plettenberg Bay, and the best golfers in that group compete on the lovely George golf course every year for the Franklin Cup, which is won by the player with the best gross score.
Hutton joined George Golf Club eight years ago when he moved to the Southern Cape. He was invited to join the Seniors Golf Society soon after that and won the championship for the first time in 2018. He successfully defended his title in both 2019 and 2020.
No competition was held in 2021 due to Covid, but on Thursday 17 February, Hutton held off some tough competition to win the championship for the fourth time.
He is the only player since the competition was first played in 1953 to have won four times in succession.
