OUDTSHOORN NEWS - The first community gaming tournament will take place on Saturday 30 May at 10:00 at the Thusong Centre in Bridgton. Entrance is R100 and to be an onlooker, R10.
Participants from various age groups and backgrounds are expected to participate in this unique event. The tournament aims to bring together local gamers to create a fun, engaging event for the community.
The event will offer competitive matches and entertainment, as well as refreshments for all attendees.
Prize money for first place is R500, plus a trophy. Second place will receive R300, and third place R200.
Oudtshoorn Courant did an interview with the organisers of the event, Mxolisi Manata and Jason Stoffels. Both are avid gamers and decided that, like them, there are many gamers in Oudtshoorn who never have an opportunity to take part in a proper gaming tournament.
Manata explains that gaming brings people together in a fun and competitive way, but is also open to anyone interested in and wanting to learn the finer tricks of becoming a gamer. "The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive and we expect a full hall during the upcoming tournament."
Stoffels explains that the the Fifa World Cup 2025 game will be played during the upcoming tournament. "It's not difficult and a very competitive and fun game to take part in. Call of duty is our next focus, as this is one of the most popular games being played worldwide."
The prize money up for grabs is a small motivation for gamers to join the event. Manata and Stoffles both see this tournament growing in Oudtshoorn and also as a way to keep children occupied and off the street.
Manata encourages all to attend on the 30th to experience the excitement of gaming for themselves.

Culture: It is a social experience where users connect, communicate, and form communities.
Purpose: Beyond entertainment, it is used for stress relief, skill development, and, for some, as a career in competitive esports.
