PLETTENBERG BAY NEWS - A man who was found guilty of dealing in drugs, Neo Mosoeu (44), was sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment in the Plettenberg Bay Regional Court on Tuesday 14 October.
Police are now searching for Vincent Mosoeu (36), the second accused in the case, who failed to appear in court after being released on bail.
Their arrests were the result of an operation aimed at curbing the influx of illicit drugs into the province last year.
"Members of the Provincial Organised Crime Investigations (OCI) Narcotics unit based in George received information on 27 August 2024 that a supplier was en route to the Garden Route with a consignment of drugs," read a statement by Sergeant Chris Spies, the Southern Cape police spokesperson.
Spies said the unit assembled a team which included Attaqua K9 and acted on the information.
Supplier
Spies said when the members spotted the vehicle, a Chevrolet Captiva, along the N12 the following morning, they stopped it at the entrance to De Rust and searched it.

"This led to the discovery of 40 000 Mandrax tablets hidden in a compartment at the back. Police confiscated the drugs estimated at R2m and arrested the driver, Vincent Mosoeu (36), on a charge of dealing in drugs."
Spies said further investigation led to the subsequent arrest of Neo Mosoeu (44), the manufacturer and supplier of the Mandrax tablets.
Neo was kept in custody until his conviction. He was sentenced to 14 years imprisonment of which four years were suspended for five years, with strict conditions.
