GARDEN ROUTE | KAROO NEWS - Pick n Pay initiated a recall on the 3 February, for No Name Smooth Peanut Butter, Eden Smooth Peanut Butter, and Eden Crunch Peanut Butter, available nationwide.
All affected products have been promptly removed from all stores across the country.
No other peanut butter brand at Pick n Pay is subject to this recall. On their website, they stated that the health and well-being of their customers is their top priority.
Customers who have purchased these peanut butter products are encouraged to return them to Pick n Pay for a full refund if the expiry date falls between now and July 2025. Regardless of the expiry date or whether the products have been opened, customers with concerns are welcome to return them.
Upon internal standard testing, these products were found to contain higher than regulated levels of Aflatoxin, posing a potential health risk. While Aflatoxin is a naturally occurring mycotoxin, the levels detected exceeded regulatory thresholds.
Pick n Pay has, according to their statement, collaborated with the National Consumer Commission and the National Department of Health, Directorate of Food Control.
They urge customers to inspect their pantries and food cupboards and return the affected products to any Pick n Pay store for a full refund.
