These were the words of Lt Genl NS Mkhwanazi during the passing out parade of the 433 recruits who have just completed their training and are now fully qualified members of the South African Police Services.
As part of their training the recruits spent several months gaining practical experience at police stations. Mkhwanazi challenged the new police members to instill trust in the public. " We can never tolerate ill-discipline in our police service. Just as a great deal of authority has been bestowed on you ... so too has a huge amount of responsibility been placed on your shoulders."
The 433 new police officers will begin their duties at police stations across the country.
During the parade medals for long service were also awarded to SAPS members for loyal and outstanding service of 30 and 40 years.
