Update
GEORGE NEWS - The Herold veldfire remains active over a wide area, tonight 27 October. The Eastern flank is currently visible with flames slowly burning down George Peak.
Ground teams are in place with spotters on duty to keep watch throughout the night.
Please note that ground crews are actively suppressing lines where possible.
Weather conditions remain favourable for back burns tomorrow. No current threat to infrastructure.
The Outeniqua pass is open but motorists have been requested to not stop and take pictures or to walk in the mountains as this hinders the firefighters.
