KNYSNA NEWS - The insurer, Santam, will make public the outcome of their investigation into the cause of the Knysna/Plett fires later today, two years after the deadly firestorm hit the district in June 2017.
Seven people died and losses ran into billions of rand. The report will be released in Cape Town.
Following the fires, Santam faced claims of over R700 million.
An earlier report by the CSIR concluded that the source of the fire was started by lightning in Elandskraal on 22 March and flared up in the windy, dry conditions in the Garden Route causing loss of life and devastation of hundreds of properties and huge stretches of land.
The Knysna Municipality was repeatedly informed about the smouldering fires in Elandskraal, but did nothing to extinguish the burning undergrowth.
Santam’s findings will be published as soon as it is available.
