GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Phase 2 of Covid-19 vaccinations in the Garden Route will start next week, on Monday 24 May. People in old age homes will be the first to be vaccinated on site, according to Western Cape Health district spokesperson Nadia Ferreira.
The Western Cape Health Department officially launched the province's phase 2 vaccination rollout on Monday 17 May in the Cape Town Metro, focusing on over 60s. "Over the next few weeks, more vaccination sites will come online, including rural sites such as the Garden Route," said Ferreira.
She warned that an increase in Covid-19 cases has been noticed in almost all sub-districts.
"Help us to keep our loved ones safe by avoiding crowded places, close-contact settings and confined and enclosed spaces,” she requested. “Always wear a mask when in public, wash your hands, don't touch your face, keep 1,5m apart, cover your cough and stay home when sick."
She said communications will be published when they start vaccinating people over 60 at the vaccination sites.
"When it is someone's turn to be vaccinated, they will receive an SMS with a date, time and unique code. People should please not go the relevant vaccination site before receiving an SMS instructing them to do so," she cautioned.
