The objectives of the summit are to provide a platform for all Oudtshoorn stakeholders to discuss community safety and map out a process on increasing safety in the Oudtshoorn Municipal precinct.
The summit is also aimed at reaching a broad consensus on the safety priorities and interventions needed for the Greater Oudtshoorn to ensure a healthy and safe environment for all.
MEC for Community Safety, Mr. Dan Plato is expected to address the attendees during the summit. Some of the dignitaries that are expected to attend are the Executive Mayor of the Greater Oudtshoorn Alderman Gordon April and General Arno Lamoer the SAPS’s Provincial Commissioner in the Western Cape.
The attendees that consist of the Councillors, Ward Committee members, representatives from various Government Departments, members of the Community Police Forums (CPF’s), South African Police Service (SAPS), Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO’s) and community development workers will be provided a platform to engage with one another in a form of commissions.
The five commissions will discuss the following topics:
- Law enforcement and Criminal Justice
- Substance Abuse, Youth at risk and youth diversion
- Families, parenting and early childhood development
- Victim support and domestic violence
- Municipal safety planning, coordination and policies
