OUDTSHOORN NEWS AND VIDEO - The Oudtshoorn Municipal Human Settlements Department walked away with the national award for the best informal settlements upgrading project in the country, The award was bestowed on the municipality during the National Govan Mbeki Awards 2018 held in East London on Friday 30 November.
Colan Sylvester, Executive Mayor of Oudtshoorn, said the award is a great acknowledgement of the hard work that the Human Settlements Department has been doing to live up to the municipality's vision for prosperity for all. During 2018 the municipality, in conjunction with the Western Cape Province has provided title deeds for 586 new home owners.
A further 63 new houses have already been handed over to owners and their title deeds are currently being processed.
The Rose Valley project is done in three phases of which two have been completed. Construction of houses for phase three is currently underway.
When completed the project will have provided 967 homes to new owners in Rose Valley.
Oudtshoorn was one of three national finalists and was nominated after the Municipality won the Western Cape award for the best informal settlements upgrading program for Rose Valley Phase II, on 31 August.

The Western Cape MEC for Human Settlements, Minister Bonginkosi Madikizela, accepted the award on behalf of Oudtshoorn Municipality. Two municipal officials in the Department of Human Settlements, Sharleen Malgas and Sylvia Tyatya, represented the municipality at the awards function.
