OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Two learners from Fezekile Secondary, Bryon Stoffells and Thimna Hoco, recently excelled in the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FCSA) writing competition for gr.11 learners.
Both advanced to the provincial round to represent their school as well as the Eden and Central Karoo district.
Fezekile headmaster, Thembeka Mnguni said despite the challenges posed by Covid-19 and limited technological resources to do research at home, these learners illustrated great commitment in the competition and their tenacity should be applauded.
When asked about their experience, Hoco said the competition was quite intellectually intriguing and exposed him to financial literacy information and even more so how to regulate a personal budget and be financially savvy.
Stofells agreed with Hoco's sentiment and said that he feels that participating in this initiative has exposed him to a new career path.
According to their accounting teacher, Sanele Ngubo, the competition was an eye-opener for learners on how they can apply their accounting knowledge in their daily lives.
Ngubu said that this initiative could be instrumental in the promotion of commercial school subjects and related careers.
Furthermore, he expressed his gratitude for the support of the FSCA in this regard.
