SOUTHERN CAPE NEWS - The Garden Route Clivia Club had its tenth anniversary show over the weekend of September 26 and 27.
Although the number of show entries were down on last year, the quality of the plants was outstanding. This was confirmed by the judges from Bloemfontein and Cape Town who described the show as "one of the best in the country”.
Gerhard and Karen Faber of George achieved the remarkable by winning Best on Show gold, silver and bronze. Willie Freund won Best on Show in the category for own breeding whilst Piet and Jeanette Theron won the People’s Choice Award as well as the Best Green Flower on show.
The club’s show director, Fanie van der Merwe, has decided to step down after organising the show. The club members thanked him for his huge contribution and his willingness to assist his successor.
The Garden Route Clivia Club thanks the public for their support during the show, as well as all the sponsors for their generous contributions.
There is another opportunity for the public to purchase clivias from the club’s members this Saturday, October 3 from 08:00to 13:00 at Agriland in Louis Fourie Street, Mossel Bay.
There will be an exhibit as well as a workshop (11:00). All gardeners are invited to use the opportunity to learn about these wonderful indigenous and water-wise plants.
