OUDTSHOORN NEWS - Executive Mayor Colan Sylvester, conveyed a goodwill message to the residents of the Greater Oudtshoorn and all municipal stakeholders during a Carols by Candlelight event on Sunday 17 December at the Oudtshoorn Civic Centre.
"It is hard to believe that it is already time to say Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Happy New Year," said Sylvester addressing the audience that attended the Carols by Candlelight. He also declared it as an annual event from now on.
"What a great year we had in Oudtshoorn. This past year has been a year of many challenges and accomplishments.
"Our community has drawn together even closer and we have accomplished more than ever before. We are on our way to becoming a shared community."
Sylvester added, "As we celebrate this holiday season, I hope we will continue to spend time with family and friends. Let us use this time to reflect and count our blessings."
He asked that all communities of Oudtshoorn remember their neighbours at this time of year, especially the elderly and those who live alone.
"My good wishes go to those who are sick at home or in a hospital this Christmas and I wish you a speedy recovery."
The Carols by the Candlelight event comprised musical performances and spiritual dances by local gospel artists and church choirs who all volunteered to perform at no charge.
The performances were followed by handing over of Christmas packets to children by the executive mayor and other members of the executive committee.
In conclusion, Sylvester wished all the residents and stakeholders in the Oudtshoorn municipal area a merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
