CALITZDORP NEWS - Boplaas Family Vineyards proved once more to be among the best in the country at the recent Veritas Awards held on 11 October at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC).
Boplaas won seven medals including a Double Gold and four gold medals for its red wine and Cape Port.
The Double Gold was awarded for its Cape Tawny Reserve 1995 and Gold for the Boplaas Ring of Rocks 2016, Cape Tawny NV, Cape Vintage Reserve 2016 and Cape Vintage Reserve 2017.
Calitzdorp Cellars also featured as a producer of worth. The cellar won four Silver Outstanding and three bronze awards.
The Silver Outstanding went to the cellar's Cape Vintage 2017, Hanepoot 2017, Cape Ruby 2018 and Tinto NV.
The Veritas Awards started in 1991 and is the longest running and most prestigious wine and brandy competition in South Africa. It gives recognition to wines and brandies of exceptional quality.
Gold and Double Gold awards are of significant value to the wine industry as it offers a prestigious image for the wine, winery and winemaker, brandy and brandy masters.
Each year more than 120 international and local judges gather in the Cape to judge the entries that cover the full spectrum of different styles and vintages.
Wines and brandies are tasted blind by panels that consist of seven experts, judging 10 wines / brandies at a time. There were 491 entries for this year's competition.
