GEORGE NEWS - An urgent plea for help has been circulated on social media after two birds were stolen from Raptor Rescue in Plettenberg Bay last night, Wednesday 13 September.
One of them was an American black vulture (ring number 9A64721) and the other is a yellow-billed kite (ring number 7A05728).
According to a Facebook post by VulPro, a vulture rehabilitation center in Hartebeespoortdam, Blackie was rescued by them in 2018 from a pet shop in Krugersdorp.
“She is very intelligent and charismatic. In 2021 we loaned her to Raptor Rescue Plett so that she could be an educational ambassador for vultures and their conservation. We are concerned that she may be sold into the Muti trade. Raptor Rescue Plett has opened a police case and has reported it to Cape Nature,” reads the post.
A reward is offered for the safe return of both birds.
Time is of the essence as these birds are likely to stress and dehydrate quickly. Anyone with information is asked to call 078 135 3611.
