BUSINESS NEWS - De Krans Wines in Calitzdorp remains without a doubt one of SA’s leading port producers. This statement was reaffirmed with the Cape Vintage Reserve 2022 being this year’s top scorer, earning an impressive 94 points. While the port-style wine took top honours, a further four of De Krans’ wines received a score of 90+ by revered UK authority Tim Atkin MW, in his highly anticipated annual South African Wine Report.
The Cape Tawny Limited Release and Tritonia Red 2022 each received 92 points, with the Garden Route Sauvignon Blanc 2024 scoring 91, and the Touriga Nacional 2022 90 points out of a possible 100.
Atkin, a British Master of Wine and accomplished wine commentator with extensive experience of South African wines, tasted a total of 2,256 wines from 425 producers for his 2024 Special Report.
Consistently a top achiever in Atkin’s SA Wine Report, the Cape Vintage Reserve Port is best described as a big wine full of ripe dark fruit notes of plum, mulberry and black currants. Well-rounded with smooth dark chocolate undertones and firm tannins are prominent in this port-style wine that would mature well over 30 years. Without a doubt one to add to your collection, the De Krans Cape Vintage Reserve Port 2022 will be available directly from the cellar towards the end of the year.
