CALITZDORP NEWS - The Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve 2013 has been included in the Top 100 SA Wines awards 2016 and was awarded first place for wine consistency between 2011 – 2016, which is a top result for this family run winery.
The sixth iteration of the Top 100 SA Wines with tasting panel – including Master of Wine, world renowned independent judges and expert winemakers – attracted more than 500 entries.
The Boplaas Cape Vintage Reserve 2013 won a double platinum medal, was included in the Top 100 SA Wines and also the best Port in SA with the grand cru first place winner. Along with this the Boplaas Ouma Cloete Straw Wine 2015 won a double gold medal. Both the Boplaas Gamka Family Reserve 2013 and the Boplaas Ring of Rocks Family Reserve 2013 received double silver medals.
Boplaas is synonymous with the crafting of benchmark, authentic and age worthy Cape Port-styled fortifieds and red table wines from the Portuguese varieties. This includes Tinta Barocca, Touriga Nacional, Touriga Francesa and Souzao. Margaux Nel, winemaker of Boplaas, did her MSc in viticulture on the Portuguese varieties as table wines.
