GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - According to choral music fan Elizabeth Duminy, The Carpe Musicam! Choir need not stand back for anyone. Their performance in Sedgefield was described as ‘superb’, ‘brilliant’ and ‘absolutely fantastic’ by concert-goers.
The concert is themed around the events of the Jesus’ Passion, Resurrection and Ascension, as well as the Coming of the Spirit.
Far from being dreary and sombre, the music was full of emotion, joy and inspiration.
Paul Barker’s “MASSive” – a pop-rock version of the Requiem Mass - and his “Hallelujah!” – a gospel-style chorus - were the highlights of the performance with the audience happily joining in, and “Hallelujah!” was repeated at the audience’s request.
There were quieter moments as well, with the stunningly beautiful arrangement of “O, Sacred Head, Once Wounded” - which was based on a Bach Siciliano - bringing tears to more than one audience member’s eye.
If you missed this unique and inspiring concert, do not despair. Carpe Musicam! Choir and Boutique Band will be repeating the show on Friday evening 13 May at 19h00 in the Outeniqua Primary School Hall, and at the magnificent Laminin Agora Celebration Venue, 8 kms along the R328 from Hartenbos, at 15h30 on Sunday 15 May.
Tickets for both events are available online from www.carpemusicam.co.za or take your chance at the door.
