“I want to break the record and I am confident I will do it. Time has come and I am ready for it,” said Phiri during a briefing at Southern Sun Ridgeway Hotel in Lusaka before she left for South Africa.
Phiri was later stranded in South Africa for two days after South African Airways cancelled flights to New York because of bad weather, but was finally able to leave on Sunday night.
From New York, the boxing champion travelled to Mexico, where her coach Christopher Malunga said they were being well accommodated and busy with training in preparations for Saturday’s confrontation.
